Ashby de la Zouch & the National Forest

Ashby de la Zouch lies at the heart of the flourishing National Forest, an area that embraces ancient buildings, interesting visitor attractions and miles of hidden nature trails. There are also precious reminders of the industrial revolution, lovingly preserved and proudly displayed.

The emerging National Forest is changing the face of this part of Leicestershire, providing lots of opportunity for walking, cycling and horse riding. At the heart of the new forest lies the award-winning family visitor attraction Conkers, near Moira. Rain or shine, there’s heaps to do here, with indoor and outdoor activities providing fun for all ages.

Nearby, you can take a trip on the Ashby Canal to visit the 19th century blast furnace at Moira, or visit Coalville, where a former colliery has been transformed into the fascinating Snibston Discovery Park in celebration of Leicestershire's industrial past. The beautifully restored Donington-le-Heath Manor House is also in this area, and holds regular special events.
