CHRISTMAS shoppers coming into Leicester will be able to park for free in the evenings in a move announced by Leicester City Council.
From Thursday, November 20, parking in a number of city council-run car park will be free for motorists who arrive from 6pm onwards. The festive offer runs until December 31.
The free offer includes car parks at Dover Street, Newarke Street, St Nicholas Place, and the Haymarket.
Thousands of on-street car parking spaces across the city are already free of charge after 6pm.
In addition, the Park and Ride bus service from Meynells Gorse will also be free after 6pm, allowing shoppers to park out of town and travel into the city free of charge.
Leicester City Council's cabinet member for regeneration and transport, Cllr Patrick Kitterick, said: "This will be the first Christmas for the landmark Highcross Leicester complex, and we are expecting thousands of shoppers to want to come to the city to make the most of the impressive shopping on offer here.
"By offering free evening parking and providing a free Park and Ride service, we are helping shoppers make the most of Leicester this Christmas, and I look forward to people taking up this seasonal offer."

to follow West Zone car parking signs for Highcross John Lewis Car Park, Highcross Rooftop and St Nicholas Circle car parks.
